Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine

The Cité de l'architecture et du patrimoine, the place of architecture and cultural heritage, is a French architecture museum. It is located in the Palais de Chaillot on Place du Trocadéro in the 16th arrondissement of Paris.

History of the Museum

The museum is the successor of the 1879 set up by Eugène Viollet -le- Duc Musée des Monuments français. It is located in a wing of the occasion of the World Exhibition in Paris in 1937 built the Palais de Chaillot. After a fire in 1997 it was rebuilt by 2007 and opened under its current name.

To fulfill its tasks, the Cité means of Companies has as obtained, for example the French real estate group Bouygues and the Swiss designer furniture company Vitra. It belongs to the "Public facilities with industrial and commercial character " ( EPIC).

Terms of Cité

The building contains approximately 8,000 m² of exhibition space for the permanent exhibition, 1,830 m² of space for special exhibitions and to 1,700 m², an architecture library.

The Musée des Monuments français shows in three departments once the gallery of casts ( gallery of the Moulages ), gallery of murals and stained glass windows ( gallery of the peintures muraleses et des vitraux ) with replicas of high-level works of historically important buildings and the Gallery of Modern and contemporary architecture (Galerie d'architecture moderne et contemporaine ).

Other users of the Cité are the Institut français d'architecture and the École de Chaillot, which awards grants to scientists who deal with special architectural themes such as urban planning or restoration.

The Global Award for Sustainable Architecture is awarded annually since 2007 in cooperation with UNESCO in the Cité.
