Cité des Fleurs

The Cité des Fleurs ("city of flowers" ) is a 320 m long, tree-lined private road ( voie privée ) with villas in the 17th arrondissement of Paris.

History

1846 founded Ernest Goüin the railway and engineering works " Ernest Goüin et Cie " in the nearby village of Batignolles, which is still one of the four quarters of the 17th arrondissement of Paris. For the nearly 2,000 factory workers appropriate living space was needed. In 1847, therefore, the property owner Jean- Edmé Lhenry and Adolphe Baqueville de la Vasserie their plots stored in the Quartier des Epinettes to a two- acre parcel "Villa des Fleurs " together. They divided the area into equal-sized terraced plots and sold in 1850 with this detailed, sometimes unusual zoning restrictions. These related to the height of the two-story building houses in the orientation of the facades up to the specification of at least three trees per front yard. In September 1850, the street was renamed Cité des Fleurs. 1857 was the first community residents, its own police regulation was adopted and public transport tolerated until 1866 were all parcels sold on 31 October 1864. The first water supply was established in 1865, the connection to the city sewer was 1898. Due to a law of 1901 regulated for the first time a statute on June 12, 1907, the ownership interests by the first organized association of homeowners was launched. 1909, work began on the church of Saint Joseph of Epinettes in the parallel street, Rue Pouchet (No. 59). In 1869, the Paris-born Alfred Sisley painted the oil painting " View of Montmartre from the Cite des Fleurs ".

Here the actress Catherine Deneuve was born on 22 October 1943 her older sister, the actress Françoise Dorléac, came here on March 21, 1942 to the world. On 18 May 1944, resistance fighter of the Resistance, was executed by the Gestapo and deported six residents at home 25. In that house there was a counterfeit workshop for documents.

Today, 32 houses and 20 condominiums are a total of 62 owners. They are united in the Association Syndicale Libre Cité Fleurs, which has given new statutes on 1 January 2011.

Transport links and location

The Cité des Fleurs is located in the Quartier des Epinettes ( "quarter of the pines "). Access to the road is from the Avenue de Clichy and Rue de la Jonquière. In the official map, the road is not named. From the public transport is blocked by two iron gates at their ends. Thus it is a quiet street in the bustling city, because only supply traffic is allowed. The Cité des Fleurs is located between the rue Navier in the north, Avenue de Clichy in the West, and the Avenue de Saint- Ouen in the east. In the surrounding road district Epinettes 15,415 inhabitants live on 492,000 square meters. The residential value in the street is among the highest of Paris and the prices are raised; for a 229 m² villa around 1.5 million euros fair value must be recognized.
