City God (China)

Chenghuang (Chinese城隍, Pinyin Chenghuang, W.-G. ch'eng -huang, English city god ) is the patron deity of a city. According to Daoist faith each city has a patron god, the evil of the city turns away and protected their inhabitants. In almost every major Chinese city, therefore, is in a prominent place, a temple for the city of God, which is called in Chinese Chenghuang miao (Chinese城隍庙/城隍庙, Pinyin Chenghuang Miao, English town god's temple ). According to the records of the first temple for a city of God in the East China City Wuhu ( Anhui ) in the year 239 of the Wu dynasty to have been built of the Three Kingdoms period.
