Glen Eira is located 8 to 17 km south-east of the center of Melbourne and includes 15 neighborhoods: Bentleigh, Bentleigh East, Caulfield, Caulfield East, Caulfield North, Caulfield South, Carnegie, Elsternwick, Gardenvale, Glen Huntly, McKinnon, Murrumbeena, Ormond, Ripponlea and part of St Kilda East. The seat of the City Council is located in Caulfield in the northwest part of the LGA.

After the Second World War, Glen Eira was one of the fastest growing municipalities in Australia. Here lives a particularly large proportion of Jewish citizens ( 16.6%), especially in the North District Cauldfield. Today, the City has a higher average age and mainly consists of residential areas.

In a Caulfield Campus Monash University is offering a wide range of subjects from art and design, business, information technology to medicine. Approximately 13,400 students are registered at this campus, almost a quarter of all students of the University.

In Elsternwick brothel district is the Daily Planet, which thereby became famous that it is the first establishment of its kind worldwide was 2003, which was listed on the stock exchange.

The City has a twinning with the Japanese city of Ōgaki.

Management

The Glen Eira City Council has nine members, who are elected by the residents of three wards (three Councillor per Ward). These three counties ( Camden, Ross Town and Tucker ) are set independently of the districts. From the circle of Councillor also the Mayor ( Mayor ) of the Council recruited.
