Civry-la-Forêt

Civry -la -Forêt is a commune in the region Ile- de -France in the department of Yvelines. Administratively, the church is assigned to the Canton Houdan and the arrondissement Mantes- la- Jolie.

The village is located around 20 km south-west of Mantes- la -Jolie and has 370 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011).

Geography

Civry -la -Forêt is located in the southern part of the natural landscape Mantois on the western edge of the department of Yvelines. The municipal area is predominantly agricultural. To the south, the Forêt de Civry, which occupies about a quarter of its territory. The northwestern boundary of the parish is the Vaucouleurs, a tributary of the Seine. The municipal area also includes the two hamlets Picotière and Bonneville.

Far away from the main roads, the village Departmental via Route 166 to the neighboring villages Boissets ( in the west) and Orvilliers ( in the East) connected.

History

The area was already inhabited during the Bronze Age. Bear witness to the remains of a foundry and numerous tools from that era, which were found.

The name comes from the Civry Gallo-Roman clan name Sevire. Originally Severicurtis, was the parish of the village up to the French Revolution de la Forest Civry.

A succession of dynasties in command of the reign de la Forest de Civry: Raoul de Civry in the 11th century, the Seigneurs de Richebourg in the 14th century and the Famille Vialard in the 16th century. Even before the great Revolution, the territory of Louis Charles de Bourbon, Count of Eu was bought.

  • The Saints- Gorgon -et- Barthélemy ( also Saints- Barthélemy ), located about one kilometer from the village center. Both relics are under monument protection since 1963.
