CKAN

The Comprehensive Knowledge Archive Network ( CKAN ) is a web-based system for storing and distributing data, eg for the content of databases that are supported by the Open Knowledge Foundation. It is inspired by the package management systems known from Linux and is even the "apt -get from Debian for data".

CKAN is controlled completely RESTful to a great extent. This makes it easy, automated descriptions of data entries to maintain via script.

The system is currently being used as a publication platform for Open Government Data datahub.io and several projects ( eg data.gov.ukund Norway data.norge.no. )

Austria's federal government intends to a Cooperation Open Government Data - along with the cities of Vienna, Linz, Salzburg and Graz - April 2012 by CKAN software data release web-based. In Austria cities were the pioneers. The EU is expected to also use CKAN.
