Claire Denis

Claire Denis (* April 21, 1948 in Paris ) is a French film director and screenwriter and professor at the La fémis in Paris.

Life

Denis grew up as the daughter of a French colonial official part in Africa in Cameroon, Burkina Faso and Djibouti on. In 1972, she joined the Institute des hautes études cinématographiques ( IDHEC ) with a diploma. In the aftermath Denis was among other things an assistant at Wim Wenders, before she made her first film in 1988.

Nénette et Boni was honored in 1996 with the Golden Leopard. Her film Beau Travail ( The Foreign Legionnaire ) was honored in Montreal in 1999 with the Louve d'or, and at the Geneva Festival Tout écran with the award for best director. In both films, the male lead of Grégoire Colin is embodied, which is one of Denis ' favorite performers.

2009 Denis received for her film White Material an invitation to compete in the 66th Film Festival of Venice. In 2011 she was awarded the art prize of the Berlin Academy of Arts.
