Claremont is a country town in the north of Jamaica. The city is located in Middlesex County in the Parish of Saint Ann. In 2012, Claremont had a population of 2,544 people.

Origin of the name

Claremont was first called " finger post " until it was in honor of the " Clermont House", the first building of the place, renamed and given its present name.

Geography

Claremont is located about 10 kilometers in a straight line from the northern coast, and is on average 480 meters above the sea level. The nearest village is located about two kilometers to the west exploiting dividend Golden Grove. The landscape around the town is mountainous and alternates between cultivated land and forests from.

History

The landscape around the town has been for centuries the home of a wealthy landed gentry. Even today in the urban area, a significant number of elegant homes and property.

Infrastructure

By Claremont leads the secondary road B11, which begins in the neighboring town of Golden Grove, and leads to Falmouth on the western north coast.
