Clarence E. Mulford

Clarence Edward Mulford ( born February 3, 1883 in Streator, † 10 May 1956 Portland ( Maine) ) was an American author and the creator of the character Hopalong Cassidy.

Life

Mulford was the son of Clarence Mulford Cohansey and Minne Grace Kline. In 1920 he married Eva Emily Wilkinson, who died in 1933. Mulford himself died at the age of 73 years after surgery.

Hopalong Cassidy

1904 Mulford created the figure of the cowboy Hopalong Cassidy; the first book in the Cassidy showed up, appeared in 1907. Mulford researched carefully for his stories, which played in the Wild West, got itself but only in the year 1926 in the West. Hopalong Cassidy was the hero of many stories - of Mulford came alone 28, but the figure was later adopted by other authors - are films and comics. 1944 bought by the actor William Boyd Mulford from the rights to the character. Boyd had previously changed the character Hopalong Cassidy according to his ideas.
