Clarissine Church (Bratislava)

The Clarisse Church ( Slow kostol klarisiek, Klarisky kostol ) is a church in the Slovak capital Bratislava. It belongs to the complex of the monastery of the Poor Clares in the old town.

History

The nuns of the Poor Clares came to Bratislava in 1297 and built with the support of the king in place of the ruined Cistercian monastery in the 14th century, a church and a convent. 1782 Poor Clare Monastery was dissolved; the church was the seat of the legal academy and the high school. In modern times, it serves as a concert and auditorium as well as exhibitions.

Appearance

When Clarisse Church is a nave church in the Gothic style. A prism-shaped tower was added in the 15th century. From the 18th century the main and side altars are preserved, as is the preacher stand.
