Classics Illustrated

Classics Illustrated is a comic book series based on works of world literature such as Ivanhoe, Treasure Island or Homer's Odyssey. The book series, subtitled The most exciting stories in world literature published 1956-1972 in various German publishers. The series was based on the published by Albert Kanter American Classics Illustrated series and was produced from 1941 to 1971.

German editions

The series was published from 1956 to 1972. Booklets from Volume 1 to Volume 30 published by International Classics in Hamburg, the volumes of number 32-114 appeared in the picture magazine publisher, Hamburg, the volumes of number 115-203 (Volume 192 never appeared ) in the picture writings Verlag, Aachen and the last two volumes in the picture magazine publisher, Alsdorf. It appeared several reissues over time. Between 1991 and 2002, published by Verlag Norbert Hethke reprints and unpublished new publications in this series. Since 2012, the number of CCH publisher or the "New Image magazine publisher " continued with new titles.

U.S. spending

The series was published from 1941 to 1947, initially under the title Classic Comics. With Volume 35 the title of the series changed to Classics Illustrated. In 1953, the offshoot series Classics Illustrated Junior was launched. The U.S. edition was discontinued in 1969.
