Features

The fruiting bodies of the Red lattice -form arising from spherical, 2-3 cm wide witches eggs with an off-white outer layer ( Exoperidie ) and whitish, root-like Myzelsträngen at the base. That in the maturation of the fruit body erupting from the Hexenei, spongy - porous Receptaculum has the shape of a wide-meshed network. It is red to pink or orange colored and maximum short-stalked. The fruit mass ( gleba ) is located on the inside of Receptaculums, it is greenish, slimy and smells aasartig.

Artabgrenzung

Similarly Clathrus crispus. It differs by bordered meshes of Receptaculums that are shaped more roundish, whereby the struts appear somewhat thickened at the joints. The spores are slightly stockier in the middle. Confusion is possible with Colus hirudinosus or Colus pusillus. In these, however, the Receptaculum branches only at the upper part. Clathrus chrysomycelinus and Ileodictyon cibarium appear as pale forms of the red lattice -form.

In Central Europe, he settled only strongly influenced by the people locations such as gardens and parks. Here are the fruiting bodies appear mainly in summer. The spores are spread via blowflies, which are attracted by the smell of the mature fungus and eat the fruit mass. The spores are later excreted undigested and thus reach new locations.

Importance

The Red Lattice Ling comes because of his sickening smell of rotting flesh as edible mushroom out of the question. The species was explained by the German Society for Mycology for fungus of the year 2011 in order to gather more information about the distribution of the species.
