Claude Ake

Claude Ake ( born February 18, 1939 in Omuku; † November 7, 1996 in a plane crash between Port Harcourt and Lagos) was a Nigerian political scientist.

Ake in 1969 professor at Carleton University in Ottawa and then at the Universities of Dar es Salaam and Port Harcourt. In 1986 he was elected president of the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa ( CODESRIA ). In 1991 he founded the Center for Advanced Social Science (CASS ), a think tank that deals critically with economic development.

In his book Social science as imperialism, he deals critically with the coloniality of knowledge.
