Claude Berrou

Claude Berrou ( born September 23, 1951 in Penmarc'h ) is a French electrical engineer and professor of electronic engineering at the École Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications de Bretagne ( ENST ) in Brest.

He was from 1978 professor at ENST and Deputy Head of the Department of Electronics. He established the Laboratory for Integrated Circuits. He developed jointly with Alain Glavieux and Punya Thitimajshima a novel method of channel coding, Turbo code, published in 1993.

He received, among others 1998 Glavieux and the Thitimajshima by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers ( IEEE) awarded prize for technological innovation, the IEEE Golden Jubilee Award for Technological Innovation, 2003 Glavieux the Richard W. Hamming Medal from the IEEE and 2005 Marconi prize of the Marconi Foundation for recognized progress in the field of communication. In 2005 he received the Grand Prix France Telecom the Academie des Sciences, and he received the Médaille Ampère Société des Electriciens et des Electroniciens (SEE). He is a member of the IEEE.
