Claudio Suárez

Claudio Luis Suárez Sánchez ( born December 17, 1968 in Texcoco, México ) is a former Mexican football player who plays in defense. He's most capped player of Mexico and the CONCACAF and together with Mohammad al- Da ʿ ayya ʿ world from Saudi Arabia to the player with the most counted by the Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation international duty. Of 5 September 2001 to 14 February 2006 he was the world record holder with 165-173 games and was then ad -Da ʿ ʿ ayya replaced by Mohammad who raised the record to 178 games. On 1 June 2006 Suárez was in his 178th international match equalize the record. From the FIFA only 177 official matches are counted (presumably, the FIFA game against Martinique on July 11, 1993 at the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 1993 not as an official 'A' game because Martinique is not a member of FIFA ), the Mexican Association has even 180 Games 2003, the stadium of his native town was named after him.

National

Since 1992, Suárez has completed 177 by FIFA recognized international matches for the Mexican national soccer team. He belonged to the squad of Mexico to the Football World Cup in 2006, but was there not used. He already took at the world championships in 1994 and 1998 and part in the tournaments for the Confederations Cup in 1995, 1997, 1999 and 2001, the Copa América 1993, 1995, 1999 and 2004 and the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 1993, 1996, 1998 and 2000 in part. His last international game, he completed on 1 June 2006 against the Netherlands.

Suárez began his career at the club UNAM Pumas, where he played from 1988 to 1996. He moved in 1996 to Chivas de Guadalajara and stayed there for three years. From 1999 he played with the UANL Tigres. In early 2006, Suárez transferred to CD Chivas USA in Major League Soccer.

After a brief interlude in the subprime Carolina RailHawks FC he eventually ended his career in 2010.

With 180 caps he is Mexico's most-capped player and has thus unofficially most matches ever contested, after only 178 games are counted in Mohammad Al- Deayea. On 27 February the Egyptian Ahmed Hassan played his 179th international match and would become the official record holder.
