Clay animation

Knetfigurentrick, clay animation or Claymation English (English clay " clay, loam ," animation " revival ", also Clay -Motion ) denotes an animation technique in which figures made of clay or play dough ( plasticine ) are photographed frame by frame. From image to image they are altered, so that in the finished film a fluid movement can be seen ( stop-motion ).

Term

The term Knetfigurentrick is a little outdated, since nowadays often mixing techniques are used in which parts of the figures are made of strong plastic and will only be replaced. Misleading is the translation of the English, with clay as clay or loam. Plasticine in English is referred to as " oilbased clay". The artificial word ' claymation ' was invented in 1976 by American animator and director Will Vinton for his work. Vinton was legally protect the concept.

History

The labor-intensive manufacturing technology, which does not allow reuse movements, and must begin with a scene errors completely new, has meant that claymation was up in the 1990s, used almost exclusively in short films, mainly for television. Only new techniques such as video control during the recording process as well as streamlined animation by interchangeable parts have the current renaissance more elaborate and longer movies possible.

Examples

The currently best known clay figures are " Wallace & Gromit " by Nick Park ( Aardman Animations) and " Mary & Max" by Adam Elliot, who also has the Oscar-winning animated film " Harvie Krumpet " rotated. The English director and animator Richard Goleszowski was known by two squadrons Creature Comforts and Shaun the Sheep.
