Claygate Pearmain

The Claygate - Parmäne is an apple cultivar. She was found in Claygate, Surrey in England about 1822.

The apple was found by John Braddick and grew up in a hedge at Claygate. Brad Dick has also the ' Brad Dick Nonpareil ' ( German: Brad Dick special peers ) found about the same time in the same place. The apple was a popular dish apple to Victorian times and spread throughout England and America.

This medium-sized apple is brown and similar to a rennet with a crimson spot on the sun -facing side. It has - compared to rennet - a pink- silvery hue. It has a nutty aromatic flavor and good storage properties and is resistant to both diseases as well as against Apfelschorfpilz (Venturia inaequalis).

The Claygate - Parmäne is self-sterile and makes a pollinator required to produce fruit, but has strong fruit load, which should be harvested late in the season.
