Clayton is a city in Gloucester County and is located in the state of New Jersey in the United States.

Geography

The town lies about 30 kilometers south of Philadelphia (Pennsylvania ) and at the State Street New Jersey State Route 55

History

Jacob Fisler bought in 1850 a large part of the territory of present-day Clayton and called it " Fislertown ". After he had opened a factory for the manufacture of glass there, the city grew steadily. Along with several neighboring communities was founded in 1858, the " Clayton Township ." 1887, the city was then called by the Legislature of the State of New Jersey Clayton. The population consisted at that time of about 1500 inhabitants.
