Clayton is a city in Union County in the U.S. state of New Mexico in the United States with 2524 inhabitants ( 2000). Clayton is the county seat ( county seat ) of Union County.

Geography

The city is located in the east of the county in the northeast corner of New Mexico, is in the east 3km from Texas, located in the north- east 4 miles from Oklahoma and has a total area of 12.2 km ² without significant water surface.

Demography

According to the census of 2000, there were 2,524 people in 1,079 households and 691 families. The population density was 206.8 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 75.36 % White, 1.07 % Native American, 0.16 % Asian, 0.20 % Pacific Islander residents from the.
