Clefs, Maine-et-Loire

Clefs was until December 31, 2012 an independent commune with 963 inhabitants ( as of 2009) in the department of Maine -et -Loire in the Pays de la Loire.

Since January 1, 2013 is part of the newly created Clefs Clefs community -Val- d'Anjou, a commune nouvelle, which includes the former municipalities Clefs and Vaulandry as communes déléguées.

Geography

Clefs is situated in the countryside Baugeois. In the west the district of Saint- Quentin- lès- Beaurepaire and a short piece by Fougeré borders in the south and the east Montpollin Vaulandry. The northern district boundary is at the same time limit the Sarthe. To the east of Clefs, the great forest of Pugle expands. In Clefs of Ruisseau de Mélinais, a narrow tributary of the Loir springs. To Clefs include the hamlets and farms La Remenoutière, Le Percher, La Basse Maricaudière, La Croix de Roussay, Montjoie, Le Verger, La Joutelière, L' Orangerie, Les Guiberdières, La Cour du Liège.

History

In the 11th century, the first church of Notre -Dame is known. Then in 1138 founded the monastery of Augustinian Saint -Jean de Mélinais, restored once more extensively in the first half of the 17th century.

On 1 January 2013 Clefs became integrated with the neighboring Vaulandry in the newly created municipality Clefs -Val- d'Anjou.

Economy and infrastructure

Clefs is called the capital of the bees. This is already the most say about the economy, because much revolves around the apiary. There is the road of honey, beekeeping and processing companies, as well as some tourism ( hotel).

The Territory road D 938 Baugé - La Flèche is led around as a bypass around Clefs. The rail link to La Flèche is set for many decades.
