Clermont (Haute-Savoie)

Clermont, also Clermont -en -Genevois, is a village in Haute - Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Clermont is located at 640 m above sea level. M., near Seyssel, about 20 km west-northwest of the city of Annecy ( straight line ). The village stretches a scenic location on a hill between the valleys of the north and Usses Fier in the south, northeast of the Montagne des Princes, in Genevois.

History

Clermont was mentioned in the Middle Ages under the Latinized name Claromontium and Claromontum and thus derived from the words clarus ( bright, clear) and mons (mountain ) from. Since the 12th century Clermont made ​​a rule, which was under the Counts of Geneva. The old castle was the Count temporarily as a summer residence.
