Clinid

Heterostichus rostratus

The codfish or Kelpfische ( Clinidae ) inhabit with 20 genera and 74 species temperate regions of the Atlantic, the Indian Ocean and the Pacific, in both the northern and the southern hemisphere. Only four species live in the tropical Indo-Pacific. Preferred habitats are rocky shores and soft floors.

Appearance

As with the scaly blennies ( Labrisomidae ), which were formerly classed as Clinidae her body is scaly. Clip fish have unbranched fin rays in the dorsal fin of hartstrahlige part is always longer than the weichstrahlige. The largest species Heterostichus rostratus is 60 inches long. The remaining species remain significantly smaller.

Reproduction

The Cliniden there are both egg -laying, as well as viviparous species. Males of the viviparous have a copulatory organ. The larvae hatch from the eggs in the womb, and be born after metamorphosis to the juvenile fish.

Other codfish attach the eggs with adhesive threads to plants. This includes argentatus living in the Mediterranean Clinitrachus. Neither the egg-laying nor the viviparous species operate brood care.
