Clocolan

Province

The town of Clocolan in the community Setsoto, Thabo Mofutsanyane district, Free State Province in South Africa lies in the eastern part of the Free State highlands at 1,580 meters altitude on the border with Lesotho. 2011, it had 17,602 inhabitants ( census).

Originally, the area was inhabited by Basotho. A European traders built a shop in a cave in the mountains. The city was founded in 1906 near the cave. It was named after the European settlers is difficult to pronounce Sesotho word Hlohlowane, named for the nearby mountains.
