Clown Alley (band)

Clown Alley was an American crossover band from San Francisco, California that was founded in 1985 and disbanded in 1987. In her career, the band has played with groups such as Broken Bones, Corrosion of Conformity and English Dogs.

History

The band was formed in 1985 and consisted of vocalist David Duran, guitarist Mark Deutrom, bassist Lori " Lorax " Black (daughter of Shirley Temple ) and drummer Justin Clayton. After the band had developed enough songs, released in 1986 on German label Alchemy Records Rome, the first and only album Circus of Chaos. The album was the first release of the label. In 1987, the band broke up again. After the dissolution Deutrom and Black played temporarily at The Melvins. In 2006, the album via Southern Lord Records re-released with bonus material. The Melvins coverte the song theme for an EP that was taken at one of the Peel Sessions.

Style

According to Eduardo Rivadavia of Allmusic, the band had initially been a punk band that was influenced by hardcore punk bands such as Black Flag and Bad Brains. Due to the rising popularity of Thrash Metal in the San Francisco Bay Area, the group have mixed these styles. According to Uwe Schnädelbach from Metal Hammer the band Circus of Chaos play an original mix of punk, metal and psychedelic rock. Holger Stratmann remarked in the same issue that the band on the album as opposed to labelmates Sacrilege BC more toward hardcore punk and tend a metal fan could feel from the album disappointed. In addition, the songs are not as fast, so that crossover fans might be disappointed.
