Clyde Walcott

Sir Clyde Leopold Walcott ( born January 17, 1926 in New Orleans, St Michael, Barbados; † August 26, 2006 in Bridgetown, Barbados ) was a West Indian cricketer.

Career

His test debut Clyde Walcott in January 1948 against England in Bridgetown, Barbados. Walcott played 44 Test matches during his career for the team of the West Indies where he scored a total of 3,798 runs ( 56.68 runs per wicket ). He is one of only seven West Indian cricketer who achieved an average of more than 50 runs per wicket in their test career. He was also the first player ever to score in a test series five Centuries ( at least 100 runs ). This performance succeeded in 1955 against Australia. His international career he finished after a test against England in March 1960 in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

Others

After his playing career, Clyde Walcott remained connected to the cricket. From 1988 to 1993 he was president of the West Indies Cricket Board. 1993 Clyde Walcott was elected Chairman of the ICC. He was the first non-English chairman of the ICC. Clyde Walcott was beaten in 1994 for his services to cricket sports knighted. In 2009, he was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.
