The coat of arms of Bamberg shows Saint George.

Description of Items

Saint George is the patron of the cathedral chapter. To see it is to the St. George's Cross on the chest and flag. The shield is the noble Andechs- Meranien attributed. St. George here has two functions: It is the coat of arms for Common figure of Bamberg and plate holder for the coat of arms of the Counts of Andechs- Meranien.

History

First uses of the coat of arms in the form of a seal are known since 1279.
