Coat of arms of the Netherlands Antilles

The coat of arms of the Netherlands Antilles consists of a shield, a crest and a banner.

The shield shows five blue five -pointed stars ( 2:1:2 ) on a golden background with red board. The colors red and gold are probably in connection with the Spanish past of the islands. The five stars represent the islands of Bonaire, Curacao, Saba (Island), Sint Eustatius and Sint Maarten. The crown above the shield is the ruler of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the words Libertate Unanimus on the banner below the shield are in Latin, meaning " with one accord in freedom."

The coat of arms in its current form was adopted on 1 January 1986, when Aruba broke away from the Netherlands Antilles and received a own status as part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Until then, the original version of the coat of arms in use, which was adopted on 23 October 1964 and an additional star for Aruba contained on the sign was.

Since the dissolution of the country on 10 October 2010 the coat of arms is no longer in use.
