Coatepec, Veracruz

Coatepec is a town in the Mexican state of Veracruz, not far from the capital city of the same state of Xalapa Enríquez away. The name means in Nahuatl "hill of snakes ".

Coatepec is located 10 kilometers southwest of Xalapa in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. A four-lane main road connecting the village to Xalapa.

Inside the Municipalities of Coatepec are four small rivers with the following names: Pixquiac, Pintores, Sordo and Hueyapan. All come together in the Río Pescado, which opens at La Antigua Veracruz in the Gulf of Mexico.

Coatepec is considered very humid place. The annual rainfall is 1764.9 mm. The average annual temperature is 19.2 degrees. Normally, the maximum temperature in summer is never more than 30 degrees.

Coatepec is due to the numerous coffee plantations around the place often called the coffee capital of Mexico.

Since 2006 Coatepec is also entered in the list of Pueblo Magicos. Together with Papantla forms Coatepec representation for Veracruz in the list mentioned above.
