Coccidiphila danilevskyi

Coccidiphila danilevskyi is a butterfly (moth ) from the family of the splendor butterfly ( Cosmopterigidae ).

Features

The moths reach a wingspan 7-10 mm. Coccidiphila danilevskyi similar Coccidiphila ledereriella, differs from this species but by the intense ocher or reddish ocher staining. A reliable determination is only possible through a genital examination.

The genital armature of the males is similar to that of Coccidiphila ledereriella. The right brachium but is longer than the Tegumen. The Valven are narrower. The cucullus is less dilated more spatulate. The Valvellae are slightly curved upwards, the distal third is bent sharply. The aedeagus has a triangular protuberance on the left Apexseite.

The genital armature of females is similar Coccidiphila ledereriella, but differs by the smaller oval ostium. The sterigma has a wider horizontal bar and behind a nearly square lobe. The comb structures of the ductus bursae are smaller and less dense.

Dissemination

Coccidiphila danilevskyi is common in southern France ( including Corsica ), Spain, Portugal, Morocco, and Tunisia.

Biology

The biology of the species is unknown. The moths were captured by May to September. In North Africa, they also fly in February (Morocco ) and from September to October ( Tunisia). The species probably forms two generations.
