Codes and Keys is the eighth studio album by the indie rock band Death Cab for Cutie. It was released on 31 May 2011, but was previously fully heard on the National Public Radio website.

Formation

Through the private lives of the band members a continuous producing or importing the album was not possible, for example, married lead singer Benjamin Gibbard shortly before. In eight different studios, the 11 or 13 songs were recorded, where they stayed in a studio for more than two weeks. The album will be followed by a short tour, but the band members would prefer to concentrate on her family life.

Style

There was a lot of experimenting with the software Logic Pro and piano or keyboards, so that the guitars fade into the background. The changes in private life mainly by Gibbard are to remember the lyrics and music, they appear much brighter and more cheerful than all the other albums. So said songwriter Gibbard in an interview:

" There's a level of self- loathing in [ Narrow Stairs ] that I'm a bit of embarrassed about now [ ... ] It's a really dark record. I did not want to make that record again. I did not want to write Those songs again. "

"There is a certain amount of self-loathing in [ Narrow Stairs ], who is now a bit embarrassed [ ... ] It is a very dark album. I would not make this record again. I would write these songs not again. " "

Track list

All texts have been written by Benjamin Gibbard, but the music comes from all members of the band.

Criticism

In Australia, the album reached number seven in the ARIA album charts.

" Nevertheless, " Codes and Keys "is an album that you can count on to his favorites 2011, which you can let go through safely, without coercing the skip button that you can recommend, without embarrassing yourself. No timelessly great album, but a good album that really makes you happy for a brief three-quarters of an hour. "

" But at core, thesis are resplendent songs, the sound of a sad- sack acquiescing did life might also be pretty awesome after all " " In essence, this magnificent song, the sound of a Mies -maker, who admits that life perhaps is pretty "
