The Codonosigidae are a taxon of the so-called collar flagellates. It includes seven genera that are distinguished within the collar flagellates by the (apparent) lack of housing.

Features

A is absent or is only a thin, formed differ -ended cup of organic material, which is not visible by light microscopy. Except for the species of the genus Monosiga all species are colony -forming.

The very pronounced collar is circularly around the neck of a single, front located scourge, freshwater forms have at its rear end contractile vacuoles. All species reproduce by longitudinal division.

Dissemination

Types of Codonosigidae can be found in freshwater, brackish and sea water.

The 1880-1882 first described as a Family by William Saville Kent Group comprises seven genera:
