The surviving Keep of Colchester Castle

Colchester Castle is an English fort in Colchester, Essex. The castle stands on the foundations of a Claudius temple from Roman times Colchester and was built in 1070-1100. After a partial demolition of the 17th century, the owners erected in the 18th century around a landscaped park around the castle. Since 1922, castle ruins and park owned by the town of Colchester and publicly accessible. It is home to the Colchester Castle Museum, which has the city's history on the subject.

The fortified with a mighty Keep and the ( non-preserved ) walls around, is inspired by the Tower of London. With a surface area of 46 m × 34 m of the keep is in Colchester is the largest ever built in the UK and the largest in Europe, parts of which are still preserved.
