Colchicum trigynum

The Noah's Ark saffron ( Colchicum trigynum ) is a plant of the genus crocus ( Colchicum ) in the family of crocus plants ( Colchicaceae ).

Features

The Noah's Ark Timeless is a perennial bulbous plant, which reaches stature heights between 5 and 10 centimeters. The tubers are upright and ovate. The rare 2, usually 3 to 4 leaves are bald. In its heyday, they measure 1.5 to 7 × 0.2 to 1.7 inches and are shorter than the flowers, later they reach 10 to 22 × 0.4 to 3 centimeters. The usually 1-2, rarely 3 flowers are white to pinkish purple. The Perigonblattscheiden measure 18-40 × 4-10 mm, are narrow verkehrteilanzettlich and generally have little ears on.

The flowering period extends from March to April, rarely begins in February.

Occurrence

The Noah's Ark Timeless comes in Turkey (except the northwest), in the Caucasus, Transcaucasia and northern Iran on dry mountain slopes and open meadows at altitudes from 1300 to 2800 (rarely above 750 ) feet in front.

Use

The Noah's Ark Timeless is rarely used as an ornamental plant for rock gardens. The species is in cultivation since at least 1823.
