Colin Thiele

Colin Milton Thiele ( born November 16, 1920 in Eudunda, South Australia, † September 4, 2006 in Brisbane ) was an Australian YA author.

Life

Colin Thiele was born in Eudunda, the fourth of five children of a German -born farmer's family. His grandfather on the paternal side emigrated in 1855 from Germany to Australia. 1941 acquired Thiele at the University of Adelaide an academic degree.

During World War II he was a corporal in the RAAF in the Northern Territory and New Guinea. In 1945 he married Rhonda Gill, with whom he had two daughters. From 1946 to 1956 Thiele taught English at high schools. From 1957 until his retirement in 1980, he then worked in teacher education.

Thiele has published over 100 books of different directions ( children's books, historical biographies, poems, books on education). His literary breakthrough came in 1963 with the book Storm Boy.
