Collège international de philosophie

The Collège international de philosophie ( ciph ) in the 5th arrondissement of Paris is an open Academy, which was founded in 1983 by Jacques Derrida, François Châtelet, Jean -Pierre Faye and Dominique Lecourt to France in the possibilities for philosophical research and teaching beyond the traditional forms in the university and in high school ( lycée ) to improve. This establishment continued the reflection that in the États généraux de la philosophie (1979 ), in which Derrida had been involved, had manifested.

The institution is subject to the Law on Associations of 1901 and is financially supported by the government. The visit of the events is open to everyone. Participants can receive the diploma Diplôme du Collège international de philosophie, however, this is not a university degree.

Background

Given the threat to abolish the teaching of philosophy at the Lycée, from the study center Cerisy- la -Salle (Centre Culturel International de Cerisy ) Derrida claims to had been inspired to create this new institution.

The foundation had therefore " an origin that is not due to the government, with an international reach, it is an institution that is not meant as opposition, but the balance, questioning, open, and should occupy the edges; where you preferably less common or university not yet legitimized approaches, new objects, new themes, new fields; where more of the interstices of the academic disciplines than by themselves are talking about. "
