Colombian forest mouse

The Colombian wood mouse ( Chilomys instans ) is a living in South America rodent species from the group of the New world.

These animals can reach a body length 8-9 cm and a tail length of 11-13 centimeters. Their soft fur is predominantly gray colored, striking are the black face and a white patch or stripe on the throat.

Colombian wood mice are distributed from the central Ecuador over large parts of Colombia to western Venezuela. Their habitat is moist woods. They should be ground -dwelling, multiple copies were found in rotting, lying on the ground or tree trunks in the tree roots. Otherwise, little is known about their way of life.

According to IUCN, the Colombian wood mouse is not at risk, this information is deprecated.

Systematically, they should be closely related to the Paramo mice ( Thomasomys ).
