Colombo Centre

The Centro Colombo is a shopping mall in the borough Carnide the Portuguese capital Lisbon. It was built close to the municipal Segunda Circular ring and opened on 15 September 1997. Until the construction of the Dolce Vita Tejo, it was with 119 725 square meters, the largest after sales area shopping center in Portugal - also the largest in the Iberian peninsula. With 404 individual transactions, it continues to offer the largest range.

Architecture

The Centro Colombo is one of several major projects that have been realized in Lisbon ahead of the World Exhibition Expo 98. With direct access to the Colégio Militar / Luz metro station it is connected to the Linha Azul, which binds to the same time built extension to Pontinha, populous areas in the north of Lisbon at the mall.

Guiding principle in the design was the era of the Portuguese discoveries in the 15th century, one of the most crucial aspects of the history of Portugal. The names of places and roads inside the shopping center, such as Avenida dos Descobrimentos or Praça de Trópico cancer, refer to expeditions Portuguese navigator. The original design also saw the construction of two flanking, about 30 meters high office towers, the Torres do Colombo, before. Because of lawsuits they were built much later. The tower on the east side was opened in May 2009, the tower on the west side in February 2011.

In the Centro Colombo several large retail chains, such as Fnac, Zara, sports zone, Vobis, Continente or words are represented by branches. The offer is complemented by a wide range of services and a multiplex cinema.
