Color guard (flag spinning)

The flag waving (also waving flags, flags or banners playing percussion ) is an ancient national sport, in which people move short and provided with a heavy handle flags in various artistic vibrations, throw the flags and catch it again.

Since the end of the 17th century, this attraction was gone out of fashion, the remains had been preserved in Switzerland. With the new attractiveness of the Middle Ages also again many groups have organized across Europe who perform the flag waving in shooting festivals, club parties, town festivals, but also on medieval markets and games of chivalry. To this end, music is played, typically from alphorn players, marching bands or drum corps.

In Switzerland, the flag waving is part of the classic folk festivals and traditions such as yodeling, alphorn, country music, swing etc. Also in Italy and San Marino, there is a tradition of the flags swing.

The flag waving is also a school subject in larger high schools in the United States (flag team ).
