The Pontifical University of Comillas ( Spanish: Universidad Pontificia de Comillas ) is a pontifical university and one of the most famous academic institutions in Spain.

History

The university was on 16 December 1890 in Comillas ( Cantabria ) by Pope Leo XIII. initially founded as a Catholic seminary for the training of priests.

In 1968 the complete relocation of the facility to Madrid was decided. Here, the university has two campus facilities, was founded in 1908 Instituto Católico de Artes e Industrias ( ICAI ), which acts as a center for technical studies, and the Instituto Católico de Administración y Dirección de Empresas ( Icade ), the center for law - and economics.

The university has about 10,000 students. The university is headed by the Jesuit order and the leading members of the university administration belong to the Jesuits. Rector and thus administrative head of the university is José Ramón Busto Saiz. As Chairman of the Supervisory Body ( Registrar ) acts of the respective Superior General of the Jesuits. Currently, this is Adolfo Nicolás; his predecessor Peter Hans Kolvenbach. Vice-Chancellor is Joaquín Barrero Díaz.

The former University building is now owned by the Regional Government of Cantabria and should in the future, the Centro Internacional de Estudios Superiores del Español ( CIESE or, Fundación Comillas ) harbor. Currently, its headquarters is the Palacio de Sobrellano.
