Commander-in-Chief of the Forces

The Commander in Chief of the British Army was the military leader of the British land forces of the mid-17th century to 1904. Due to the reorganization of the army administration put Lord Roberts in 1904 the office of commander- down, which was no longer occupied. Later the function was taken over by the Chief of the Imperial General Staff.
