The Compton Creek is a major tributary of the Los Angeles River. It has a length of 14 km and 109 km ² of land drained thereby. It rises on South Main Street between 107th and 108th Street in Los Angeles. Then it flows through the western Watts, Willowbrook, Compton, Rancho Dominguez and Carson. In the north of Long Beach, the river eventually empties into the Los Angeles River, which flows into the Pacific Ocean shortly thereafter. Most of the time it flows into a concrete channel. Only 3.3 % of the river are undeveloped. There are parks and agricultural land at these points. The Compton Creek is highly polluted. It is loaded with copper, lead and coli bacteria.
