Côn Đảo

Côn Đạo [Kon dɐ̌u̯ ] is an isolated group of islands in the South China Sea, south of Vietnam's mainland.

This is part of the province Ba Ria- Vung Tau archipelago consists of 16 mountainous islands with a total area of 75 km ² and is inhabited by about 5,000 people.

The largest and only inhabited island of the group is Côn Lôn, the largest city is called as the island group Côn Đạo. The group is connected by ship and by the Co Ong Airport with the outside world. Côn Đạo is part of was founded in 1984 and 1998 extended Côn - Đạo National Park, which is a sanctuary for endangered species such as the hawksbill turtle, the green turtle and the dugong.

Before the island of Hon Cau, the Vung Tau Shipwreck, a Chinese lorcha the Qing Dynasty was ( Kangxi period around 1690) found and recovered in the years 1990-92 by Mike Hatcher approximately 60,000 artifacts, mainly Chinese porcelain. A part of the treasure is still kept in Vung Tau Museum.
