Concepción Lake

The Laguna Concepción is a lake in the Department of Santa Cruz in the province of Chiquitos. The lake is located in the northern part of the Llanos de Chiquitos. The lake is formed tectonically.

Geography

The lake is close to the Serranía Chiquitana at an altitude of 248 m above sea level. It has an area of 27 kilometers in length and 10 kilometers in width. The total area of the lake fluctuates due to seasonal 58-200 km ². The bottom of the lake consists of white sand and is surrounded by wetlands, consisting of flat terrain, overgrown with forests or scrub.

Hydrology

The main tributaries in the south of the lake get their water from the distant Andes over the Río Parapeti and its sequel, the Río Quimone; to the northeast, the water flows from across the Rio San Julian and the Río San Pablo, as the headwaters of the Itonamas or, Río San Miguel is called. The lake belongs to the catchment area of ​​the Amazon.
