Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations

The Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations ( CoP, " Presidents' Conference " ), headquartered in New York City is an umbrella organization of Jewish organizations in the United States.

CoP describes itself as " a central address for U.S., Israeli and other world leaders for consultation on issues of critical importance to the Jewish community ."

The conference was formed in 1956 years due to a request by the U.S. Administration Dwight D. Eisenhower. Because of the large increase of Jewish communities in the U.S. and the differentiation of their interests ( Orthodox Judaism, Conservative Judaism, etc.) created this CoP by the government with a common voice to be accessible.

Currently meet at the conference irregularly the presidents of 51 Jewish organizations. They proclaim basic explanations or meet with important world leaders. The conference was founded to promote the interests of Israel in the United States. Until today this is their main concern. She creates no comprehensive principles such as the Jewish Council for Public Affairs and also does not engage in lobbying as the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.

Current Agenda ( 2006):

  • Global terrorism
  • Israel's security, peace with Palestine
  • Global anti-Semitism
  • Defense against attacks of Arab countries in UN bodies, UN reform
  • Transport pro-Israel media coverage
