Confessor of the Faith

Adherents are called by the Church Christians known in times of persecution of Christians to their faith and therefore had to persecution, expulsion, torture, mutilation and imprisonment accept, but have not directly suffered martyrdom.

With the spread of Christianity and the decline of the persecution of Christians in the 5th century this title was also awarded such Christians, who lived a holy life, for example, the English king Edward the Confessor.
