Conopomorpha cramer ella is a butterfly of the family of leaf miners ( Gracillariidae ). It is a pest of the cacao tree and is in English also known as cocoa pod borer, which translates as cocoa pods drill. It has been demonstrated previously in Saudi Arabia, China, India ( West Bengal and Andaman ), Thailand, Brunei, Indonesia (Sumatra, Sulawesi, Java, Irian Jaya, Kalimantan, Moluccas ), Vietnam, Australia, New Britain, Philippines, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Taiwan and Vanuatu.

The larvae feed on Cynometra cauliflora, Swietenia species, Dimocarpus longan, Litchi chinensis, Nephelium lappaceum, Nephelium litchi, Nephelium malainse, Nephelium mutabile, Pometia species ( including Pometia pinnata ), colas and the cocoa tree ( Theobroma cacao). The larvae bore into the fruit here, where they feed on the seeds 2-3 weeks. Then they eat again a way out of the fruit outside, where they pupate.

The economic damage that moths in countries with strong cocoa farming is enormous.
