Conspicuous Gallantry Cross

The Conspicuous Gallantry Cross ( CGC ) is the second highest gallantry award of the Armed Forces of the United Kingdom after the Victoria Cross.

It was established in 1993 as part of a study of the British religious system into being to replace the dependent of rank awards. The Conspicuous Gallantry Cross replaced the Distinguished Conduct Medal ( Army ), the Conspicuous Gallantry Medal ( Air Force and Navy ) and the Distinguished Service Order in its role as a bravery award for officers.

The Conspicuous Gallantry Cross is now serving as a uniform, second highest award of the entire British armed forces. It is awarded "in recognition of one or more acts of outstanding bravery during combat operations " and can also be awarded posthumously. Recipient can add their name to "post nominals " CGC. For repeated ceremonies clasps are awarded that are attached to the ribbon.

Excellent brave achievements of British soldiers that are not sufficient for an award of the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross, to be in the Navy with the Distinguished Service Cross, the Army honored with the Military Cross and the Air Force with the Distinguished Flying Cross.
