Constantin Dobrogeanu-Gherea

Constantin Dobrogeanu - Gherea ( born May 21, 1855 in Slavyanka, Jekaterinoslaw province, Russian Empire, now Ukraine, † May 7, 1920 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian writer and politician.

Dobrogeanu - Gherea came as Solomon Katz in a Jewish- Ukrainian family to the world. He made a high school in Kharkov, but then ran a long time in Slavyanka a blacksmith and worked later in Romania and also in Switzerland as a blacksmith or locksmith.

Later he went to Romania and began to work for a socialist transformation of the country. He belongs to the generation of Ion Luca Caragiale, Mihai Eminescu and Titu Maiorescu.

His major work, Neo - iobagic or the new serfdom deals with the semi-feudal conditions of life of Romanian peasants.
