Constantin Rădulescu-Motru

Constantin Rădulescu - Motru (* February 15, 1868 in Butoieşti, Circle Mehedinţi; † March 6, 1957 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian philosopher, psychologist, sociologist, playwright, author and politician, and president of the Romanian Academy.

Life and work

Constantin Rădulescu - Motru was the son of Radu Poppescu and Judita Butoi, who died at birth.

After visiting the Colegiul Naţional Carol I in Craiova, he studied at the University of Bucharest at the Faculties of Law and Literature. In the summer of 1889 he traveled to Germany, Austria and Switzerland. He then studied in Munich and Leipzig. He was a student of Carl Stumpf and worked in the laboratory of Wilhelm Wundt. His fellow student Paul Mentz in 1893 made ​​him acquainted with the work of Nietzsche. In the same year Rădulescu - Motru his doctorate with Wundt in Leipzig with the work for the development of Kant's theory of natural causality of Doctor of Philosophy. The politically active Rădulescu - Motru took over in 1906, the chair of philosophy at the University of Bucharest, 1918, the line of the Bucharest National Theatre. Later he was in the period from 1938 to 1941 and President of the Romanian Academy.

After his death Rădulescu - Motru was buried in the cemetery Cimitirul Bellu in Bucharest.
