Constitution of Cuba

The first Cuban constitution was promulgated in 1901, shortly before the independence of Cuba. Before that there was during the wars of independence, among other things, while the Republic of weapons in various draft constitutions. The currently valid constitution came into force in 1976.

Constitution of 1940

The Constitution adopted in 1940 under Federico Laredo Brú is considered one of the most advanced basic laws of that time. It was during the first presidency of the then democratically elected and later dictator Fulgencio Batista in power and in 1952 set of this partially disabled. Constitution of 1976

After the consolidation of the revolution entered a new, socialist constitution in force, which was confirmed by government figures, nearly 98 % of the population in a referendum in 1976. In the wake of the collapse of the Soviet bloc in 1990 and the subsequent special period 1992, there was a constitutional amendment that allows, among others, joint ventures with foreign companies. Freedom of religion was enshrined, which now also allowed members of the Communist Party, to profess their religion.

In the final 2002 version of the socialist system was " irrevocable " as one.
